Simon is an active member of the Queensland State Parliament representing the state electorate of Yeerongpilly.

Since being elected in 2004 Simon has been a strong advocate for improving local transport services, supporting and improving local schools and delivering on the government's jobs commitment.
Employment and training are central to the Yeerongpilly electorate.
“Yeerongpilly is a jobs engine room. We have a large industrial zone in Salisbury and Rocklea, major employment generators like the Brisbane Markets and local training and educational facilities providing skills for employment needs of the future”

Local sporting facilities have also been greatly improved in the Yeerongpilly electorate with a sporting precinct developing in Yeronga with AFL, Soccer, Rugby Union, Cricket and Swimming clubs.
In early 2009 Premier Anna Bligh and Simon opened the new State Tennis Centre in Tennyson and the first international tournament was held in January

“The Pat Rafter arena is on the world tennis map as Australia’s newest tennis stadium and local children will aspire to represent their country in a Davis Cup tie on their home court”
Simon has been working hard to address rail and traffic noise issues and to remove unnecessary heavy vehicles from local areas.
“In the last three years noise barriers have been constructed along road and rail corridors in Salisbury, Yeerongpilly and Tennyson. The implementation of camera technology on the Brisbane Urban Corridor in 2007 has removed many heavy vehicles from the local area”
Before entering parliament Simon worked in welfare and community services including working in housing and employment to assist people with low incomes obtain affordable housing and find suitable employment.
Within the parliament Simon holds the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industrial Relations, with special responsibilities for Veteran's Affairs.
Before starting his professional working life Simon undertook university studies and successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and Graduate Diploma of Business.
Simon worked his way through his studies as a cleaner, labourer, supermarket shelf filler and shop assistant.
Simon lives in the heart of the Yeerongpilly electorate in Moorooka.
