State Budget Delivers on Labor Government Promises

The 2009-10 State Budget is delivered at a time of immediate upheaval and uncertainty, but delivered with a focus on sustainability in the decades ahead. The budget has a dual task - to support the economy during this time of need, and to chart a course for a new future.

Most importantly, the budget delivers on the Labor Government's election committments.



Solar Hot Water Scheme

The Solar Hot Water Scheme delivering 200,000 solar hot water systems at a fraction of the retail price will commence on 1 July 2009

Payroll Tax Incentives

New payroll tax incentive scheme providing 125% rebates for apprentices and trainees is funded in the budget with the scheme commencing 1 July 2009

Anna Bligh's Green Army

3,000 green work placements and traineeships funded by the budget commencing 1 July 2009

Environmental Protection

$50 million to help save the Great Barrier Reef, a project which has commenced

An Education Investment

Investing $72 million in improving literacy and numeracy standards in Queensland schools over three years, a project which has commenced

Investing in 100 new science teachers for years 4 to 7, a project which has commenced

Reducing Elective Surgery Waiting Lists

Slashing Queensland elective surgery waiting lists through the expansion of the Surgery Connect program, a project which has commenced

A Healthy Investment

Training and recruiting 30 new nurse practicioners to work in the busiest hospital emergency departments - a project which has commenced

Emergency Department Upgrades

Emergency Department upgrades in Brisbane, Logan, Redlands, Ipswich, Caboolture, Bundaberg and Toowoomba, a project which has commenced

Investing in Tourism

$38 million in new tourism initiatives over three years to help project jobs commencing in 1 July 2009

Training and Education

A record expansion of Queensland's skills base with $414 million over four years invested in up to 150,000 training places over four years, a project which has commenced

Boosting the Police Force

600 new police - in which recruitment has begun - with more than 200 new officers in the 2009-10 State budget

Opening 18 new kindergartens and upgrading a further two over the next two years as part of a plan to establish 240 new or additional kindergartens by 2014, a project which has commenced
